Superintendent Communicator of the Year Award
MSPRA's Superintendent Communicator of the Year is an individual award designed to recognize a practicing superintendent of a public school district or education service agency for outstanding leadership in school public relations and communication.
Nominees must be a current superintendent or CEO of a public school district or education service agency/intermediate unit. Nominators must be a good-standing member of MSPRA. There is a $50 fee to submit a nomination for this award, limit of one. 2024 nominations will be accepted between April 1 and June 30, 2024.
Nomination Requirements
Nominations are required to include the following information:
- A statement of nomination (maximum of two pages)
- A brief biographical sketch (maximum of one page)
- One letter of recommendation
- Supporting documentation (up to six additional pages)
- Submitted as a single PDF (maximum of ten total pages)
Scoring Rubric
This is a competitive award, with nominations scored against each other using the following criteria:
- The superintendent demonstrates the value of a year-round, ongoing program of internal and external communication;
- The superintendent supports communication by allocating a portion of the budget to the program and providing staff and board training;
- The superintendent works closely and in a strategic way with the district’s communication professional(s);
- The superintendent practices communication management techniques such as empowering staff, working with the community, interacting with the media, and building partnerships with other entities; and
- The superintendent demonstrates excellent personal communication skills such as ethics, honesty, openness and good listening skills.
